Laika Studio Tour – Animation from Grow Film Company on Vimeo.
Occasionally when working I’ll feel the need to get away from my drawing desk and recharge myself creatively. It can come from working too many hours or maybe even it’s just the need to get out of my own head.
In those moments I often find that the best remedy is for me to reconnect with some of the stuff out there that got me inspired in the first place.
Laika Animation Studios definitely falls under that category!
This is a quick promo video which showcases their work on their outstanding feature “Paranorman” from a few years ago.
Get it watched and stay inspired!
Gwenn Germain, an extremely gifted French student in animation has put together this outstanding homage to the films of Hayao Miyazaki.
I won’t say too much about it, just watch! Watch and be amazed.
I absolutely LOVE the Gobelins Animation Studio! Believe it or not, this is actually a college and the film makers are still considered to be students. I’m not sure whether that is inspiring or just extremely distressing!
Watch this short, truly wonderful!
Brother Brimm is an animated short currently doing the rounds on the worldwide interwebs. Continue reading
Found this great article on Cartoon Brew showing previously unpublished photographs of the Hanna Barbera team working on the Flintsones. Amazing to see!
Go check them out…
Oh my lord, I just saw this animated short from Ben Fiquet and the Goblins team.
I can’t state strongly enough how impressed I am with this. It just brims with energy and talent from start to finish. The characters, the backgrounds, the way the scenes pan and blend into each other.
If this was made into a feature film I’d take it over any Pixar or Dreamworks release any day. I say that with no hint of exaggeration.
Check it out! That’s my strongest advice!
Background now in colo(u)r! Just the individual cells now. Amazing how fuller it starts to look with a bit of detail. Fuller? Is that actually a word? It is now if it wasn’t before!
The scene might be starting to make more sense now. At least you now know what he’s looking at.
Absolutely loving this process. Really hard work and along way to go but so worth it.Roll on full color!
Done a quick test tonight to try to get an idea of what it will look like with colo(u)r added.I’m on a massive learning curve with all this animation stuff lately. Almost got to completely reshape my drawing style. My usual scruffy, messy style isn’t going to cut it for this.
The scene itself has been a lot of fun to do. Keep checking back to finds out what our guy was actually distracted by.
