Finding Your Inspiration – A Meditation

Scottish HighlandsBeing in an inspired state of mind can be frustratingly elusive at times.

Sometimes it’s just there.

Other times it’s not.

The more you try to find it, the further away it seems to get.

I have no way of knowing whether or not whoever is reading this is familiar with the practice of meditation or not but I certainly am.

On the subject of getting into an inspired mindset, I came up this little meditation practice today that I think might help.

In case you want to try it, here it is.

Step 1
Sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes and visualise a calm picture in your mind (maybe something similar to the picture that I’ve used for this post). Try and picture it with as much detail as you can.

Step 2
Think of an artist or any other creative person who’s work you truly admire. Think of a specific piece of work that they have created in the past that you truly love.
For example, today when I did it for the first time I pictured JK Rowling and her seven Harry Potter books.

Think of all the energy that must have been present within them as they were creating it. Make it as bright and as visual as possible.

Now, as you breathe in, picture all that energy going inside you, filling your whole being from top to bottom.

Step 3
As you breathe out, picture all that energy leaving you as your own creative output into the outside world. Visualize it being warmly embraced by whoever it come into contact with.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 as often as you like.

Go ahead and try it. What have you got to lose?
